Joy was awarded her Master of Photography degree at the 2003 Professional Photographers of America Convention in Las Vegas. She has also earned the Photographic Craftsman Degree and is a Certified Professional Photographer. Joy is a Past President of the Professional Photographers of North Carolina and holds the Photographic Fellowship Degree.
