Carolina Dispute Settlement Services (CDSS), formally Mediation Services of Wake, is one of 26 Community Mediation Center in North Carolina, and also one of many such Centers across the United States. As programs developed and theories of alternative methods dispute resolution emerged, each center across North Carolina embraced the needs of their communities and implemented programs encouraging conflict resolution through non-adversarial means. Founded in a Wake County grassroots effort in 1983, Mediation Services of Wake sought to accomplish its mission of addressing community concerns of overcrowded courts and the search for a new process for dealing with conflict in two distinct, yet mutually supportive ways.
